When it comes to women’s swimwear separates, there are a lot of options out there. From swim shorts to bikinis, read on to learn more about the most popular types of women’s swimsuit bottoms.
What Are Swimsuit Bottoms?
When people use the term “swimsuit bottoms,” they are referring to the bottom half of a two-piece bathing suit. Two-piece bathing suits have been around since the 1940s, and they aren’t going away anytime soon.
A benefit of wearing a two-piece suit is that it can be easier when you have to change or use the restroom. They also allow you to show a little more skin if you are so inclined.
Types of Swimsuit Bottoms
There are several types of swimsuit bottoms available, and they all suit different needs.
Briefs are the most common type of bathing suit bottom. The term “brief” encompasses many different levels of coverage, but generally, if swimsuit bottoms are described as briefs, they have moderate to full coverage.
Swim Shorts or Board Shorts
Swim shorts are typically longer than traditional briefs. They often fall mid-thigh, but some board shorts are longer and may go all the way to the knee. Sometimes they are lined on the inside, and they are typically made from polyester, or a polyester and nylon blend.
Though the name is similar, boyshorts are different from swim shorts or board shorts. Swim shorts are loose-fitting, while boy shorts are tight like briefs. They are longer than briefs and don’t have the higher cut leg hole that briefs are known for.
The swimsuit bottom with the least coverage is known as the bikini bottom. Although this sometimes serves as an umbrella term for any swimsuit bottom, usually people use the term to describe a bottom with minimal coverage, sometimes that ties at the sides with a string.
Swimsuit bottoms come in a variety of styles, and you are sure to find one that fits your needs.
